Record breaking Earning by Captain Marvel: Has it taken down THESE Superhero movies

Captain Marvel has started on a ‘marvel’lous note in India. The Brie Larson starrer, who has won the critics, is winning the hearts of Marvel fans. As a result, Captain Marvel has registered a mind-blowing box office collection of Rs 12.75 crore. The Marvel Studios movie has not only placed itself above Amitabh Bachchan-Taapsee Pannu starrer Badla, which released on the same day, Captain Marvel has surpassed the opening day box office of several superhero movies. Let’s start with the obvious comparisons. Given that Captain Marvel is Marvel Studios’ first standalone female superhero movie, the movie has registered a higher box office collection than DCEU’s first female superhero movie Wonder Woman. The Gal Gadot starrer had earned an opening box office collection of Rs 2.10 crore. Captain Marvel has clearly beaten the movie by a huge margin.

Apart from Wonder Woman, Captain Marvel’s Rs 12.75 crore has beaten the records of fellow Marvel Cinematic Universe movies like Guardians of the Galaxy, Ant-man and the Wasp, Black Panther and Dr Strange. Guardians of the Galaxy opened to Rs 3.50 crore in 2014, Ant-man and the Wasp earned Rs 5.50 crore in 2018, Black Panther had opened with Rs 5.60 crore in 2018 and Dr Strange recorded Rs 2.63 crore in 2016 and Spider-Man Homecoming opening day box office collection of Rs 9.50 crore.

The movie also beat recently released superhero movie Aquaman which recorded an opening of Rs 7.75 crore.

Captain Marvel has opened to positive reviews. Critics all over have given it good reviews. The movie has been certified as fresh on Rotten Tomatoes with a 79 percent rating. The movie preludes 2019’s most anticipated movie Avengers: Endgame. Given the secrecy surrounding the upcoming summer release, fans are curious to see check out Easter eggs that Marvel Studios has placed in Captain Marvel.
