Actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui, who’s last outing was Nandita Das’ ‘Manto’ — a biopic of writer-activist Saadat Hasan Manto — will next be seen in another biopic. This time around, he will play the titular role in the biopic of the late Shiv Sena supremo, Balasaheb Thackeray.
The actor, who is busy promoting the film on various platforms these days, recently appeared on a popular television show, along with his co-star, Amrita Rao. During the show, the actor was asked about some incidents from his days as a struggling actor.
Recalling a particular incident, he recalled how he was cast as a a junior artiste in a commercial, and was paid a sum of Rs 4,000. Nawaz recalled how he was elated to receive such a princely sum. However, his happiness didn’t last long as he had to share half the amount with a co-ordinator since he didn’t possess a junior artiste card. Of the remaining Rs 2,000, he spent Rs 1,800 at a hotel, celebrating his achievement. Nawaz then took an auto rickshaw back home, and paid the remaining amount as fare. In short, he was penniless once again, by the end of the ride.
The actor also recalled how he tried his hand at business by buying coriander leaves for Rs 200 from a vegetable vendor. The idea was to sell it for a higher price. However, the leaves turned brown and Nawaz found no buyer for the leaves. It’s only when he confronted the vendor that he realised that he was supposed to sprinkle water on the leaves to keep them fresh.
