Despite power expressions, vengeance, and energy that seemed mutual in Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh and his feature character as Sultan Alauddin Khilji in fiction film ‘Padmaavat’, he defended that he is still not as ambitious, greedy in person as the anti-hero character of the film.
Ranveer said producer Sanjay Leela Bhansali convinced him for the villian’s role, adding that he cannot refuse with Bhansali when it comes to advices. Expressing desire to work in diverse roles in his career, he said the role actually fulfilled a portion of his ambitions.
“I think the past seven and a half years have been very solid. It has been an amazing journey from ‘Band Baaja Baaraat’ to ‘Padmaavat’. I have learnt a lot. I have been able to showcase my versatility and I have been able to learn and work with very different styles,” he said.
Ranveer emerged in the industry with ‘Band Baaja Baraat’ starring alongside powerhouse Anushka Sharma in 2010, and with recent historical films ‘Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela’, ‘Bajirao Mastani’ and ‘Padmaavat’ the actor is anticipated to cover every appealing project in the coming years – with ‘Gully Boy’ and ‘Simmba’ as well as a biopic based-off on India’s 1983 Cricket World Cup victory as his upcoming.
He aspires to contribute as much to the film industry as to look back with satisfaction by the end of his acting career. “Once I committed, I put my everything into it. But, yes, initially there were apprehensions,” said Ranveer, who found his ‘Padmaavat’ character “mentally, physically and emotionally” draining.
