Ranbir Kapoor’s Barfi is out of the Oscar race. A press announcement on Friday said only nine films will advance to the next round of voting in the foreign film category for the 85th Academy awards out of the 75 orginally qualified in the category.
The Film Federation of India faced flak for choosing Barfi over films like Paan Singh Tomar and Kahani. Trade pundits and critics alleged that Barfi was an inspired film while some of the other films sent to FFI were original content.
The films that move on to the next phase in foreign film category are Michael Haneke’s Amour from Austria, Kim Nguyen’s War Witch from Canada, A Royal Affair from Denmark, The Untouchables from France, Iceland’s The Deep, Norway’s Kon Tiki , Romania’s Beyond The Hills and Switzerland’s Sister directed by Ursula Meier.
