Performing arts: Everything that glitters

ISLAMABAD: ‘Aik Raat’, a Supervision Communication production, explored the themes of material culture and depression in today’s societal context. The play was staged at the Pakistan National Council of the Arts (PNCA) on Sunday as part of the ongoing ‘PNCA Drama Festival 2011’ to revive the trend of stage plays and theater entertainment for the young.

The story revolved around two characters, whose personalities are slowly marred in the search for their ideals in life.

It also echoed the disappointments the individuals face in their journey toward the fulfillment of their dreams. The play identified employment as the singular purpose of education in today’s world instead of seeking knowledge.

‘Aik Raat’ has been written and directed by Muhammed Sabir Khan. He gave a message to our youth to not desire only material gains in life as they would not lead to personal satisfaction or a successful future.

The ten-day drama festival which got maximum response from the youth will conclude on May 19. The plays contain a message of love, peace and harmony and are aimed at highlighting the prevalent evils in the society.
