Disney has always gave us the meaning for watching a fairy tale and ‘Maleficent’ is a story about the most iconic villain from the 1959 classic story Sleeping Beauty. The movie was the most hyped creation of Disney like all its previous releases and having Angelina Jolie as the main cast would attract audiences from different age groups to come forward and refresh their childhood memories. When one was a kid the story seemed like the evil witch just popped out of nowhere to curse the princess but after watch ‘Maleficent’ we exactly get to know her part of the story.
The elements of betrayal, hatred and pure heart was found in the movie, this is not a story from the Sleeping beauty’s point of view it was the actual story of why the evil witch casted the spell on the princess. These type of stories has always been made by Hollywood, the series ‘Once Upon a Time’ also had a segment about the evil witch and why she casted the spell but it wasn’t the same seen here. Maleficent’s story is that she cruelly places an irrevocable curse upon the human king’s newborn infant Aurora. As the child she grows in beauty and poise, but to keep her away from the witch she was sent to a cottage in middle of the forest with a few fairies.
As time passes by Maleficent realizes that Aurora may hold the key to peace in the land and is forced to take drastic actions that will change both worlds forever. The movie was not a typical story that we always see it had its own touch of change in it that some found it lame and some did enjoy.
Angelina Jolie in and as ‘Maleficent’ did a tremendous, perfect person to play Maleficent, she was sly and just as mysterious as a villain should be she exactly knew how to add drama to her scenes. ‘Maleficent’ was a revision of our classical fairytale and gave it a new twist. From her acting of being an evil witch to the climax she had the whole movie on her shoulders. Driven by sense of revenge and a fierce desire to protect she raised the bar of her acting skills.
Apart from her acting costume and make-up also did the job of holding the whole look forward. The enhancing of her cheekbones and the red bold lips added the extra glamor to the whole wickedness. If we compare the cartoon character and the previous Maleficent characters Angelina looked more beautiful and stayed up to date. The costumes that she wore were exactly depicted by the cartoon and were relatable.
On the whole ‘Maleficent’ is a treat for all age groups to watch and some might say that we expected more to the movie but still is a good and must watch. It will refresh your childhood memories but above all watch it for the magnificent Maleficent.
