Mahgul for PFDC Sunsilk Fashion Week 2013

“I am proud to be launching a capsule collection at the prestigious PFDC Sunsilk Fashion Week platform as it has launched a number of exciting upcoming designers and gives newer brands and talent a chance to showcase alongside more mainstream labels on an equal footing.” – Mahgul Rashid

At PFDC Sunsilk Fashion Week, Mahgul for Nasreen Shaikh debuts with a capsule collection as part of the platforms Emerging/New Talent category, ‘ZONG’s Promotes Emerging Talent’. Titled ‘The Archive Collection’, the designer has found inspiration in old photographs from the Civil and Military Gazette to create pieces that attempt to re-invent a traditional aesthetic sensibility in a more modern context. Based in fabrics such as Stretch Denim, Cotton, Satin and Organza, expect structured and darted silhouettes with touches of cut and thread work in a monochromatic colour palette with hints of blue. The collection channels the ethos of ready to wear as separates replete with high waisted shalwars, organza tops, summer jackets et al.

Nasreen Shaikh has been designing exclusive bridal and formal wear for almost two decades, with the label having come to be synonymous with understated elegance. With Mahgul for Nasreen Shaikh, the couturier introduces a new generation of talent through her granddaughter Mahgul Rashid, as the new pret a porter line’s creative director. Mahgul, a fine artist having worked with Rashid Rana, has been apprenticing with Nasreen Shaikh for the better part of 6 years and this new eponymous brand, Mahgul for Nasreen Shaikh, encapsulates Mahgul’s contemporary aesthetic of promoting modern simplicity, within an accessible ready to wear label. A complete version of The Archive Collection showcased at PFDC Sunsilk Fashion Week will be ready for retail as of June 10 2013 at all leading stockists in Pakistan priced between PKR 7000 – PKR 30’000.
