Maheen Khan showcased “To Karachi with Love” at FPW 2014 Grand Finale
Pakistan’s Coco Chanel, Maheen Khan, showcased her farewell collection titled “To Karachi with Love” at the grand finale of the Fashion Pakistan Week – Autumn Winter 2014 held in Karachi on November 27th
Before the finale, TDAP General Secretary, Rabiya Javeri Agha on behalf of the prime minister presented Maheen Khan with a Lifetime Achievement memento, for “changing fashion in the Pakistan from a cottage industry to a marketable trade, and acknowledged her lifelong commitment to fashion.”
Maheen Khan followed saying: “Fashion you have been the love of my life. You have inspired me and driven me. You have made me laugh and you have made me cry. But most of all you have given me the courage to carry on. Karachi … I love you!”
The showcase began with audience lighting up torches in prayers for peace and hope in Pakistan, before Khan’s collection was unveiled to the beats compiled by model, actress and DJ Hira Tareen. Veteran and former models Atiya Khan, Frieha Altaf and Iraj Mansoor also walked for Maheen’s tribute collection.
The collection, designed for the uber-sophisticated women of Karachi, includes coats, capes, and capelets to complete the sari, the gharara, or the shalwar kameez. Embroidery was minimal but the unstated ensembles ooze glamour and elegance. The stylish shoes for the showcase was provided by the international shoes & bags brand, Nine West.
