Lifetime Achievement award for ‘Abida Parveen’ In INDIA

The Begum Akhtar Academy of Ghazal, India, has given Sufi folk singing legend Abida Parveen a lifetime achievement award. The Academy is part of Kaladharmi, a non-profit organisation founded by the well-known singer and professor Rita Ganguly, to promote the performing arts.

Beloved on both sides of the border, Abida Parveen is known for her rendition of ghazals and Kafis, a classical form of Sufi poetry, including hits like, ‘Duma Dum Mast Qalandar’, ‘Teray Ishaq Nachaya’, ‘Latthe Di Chadar’, ‘Kuch Is Ada Se Aaj’ and ‘Kafian Bulleh Shah’.

She said she was “ honoured” by the gesture. “It is always a proud moment when I get an award. Thank you,” said Parveen, 58, receiving the award from Tripurari Sharan, Director General, Doordarshan.
