Starring Fawad Khan and Sonam Kapoor, the movie breaks records on opening night
KARACHI: Bollywood flick ‘Khoobsurat’ starring Pakistani heartthrob Fawad Khan and Indian star Sonam Kapoor seems to have exceeded all expectations as it made a record business in Pakistan on the opening day of its release on September 19.
According to figures provided by Distribution Club, the largest film distribution network in Pakistan, Khoobsurat made more than ten million rupees on the first day of its release. In comparison, another Indian movie Dawat-e-Ishq which was released simultaneously made Rs4 million on its opening day in Pakistan.
That’s a record for any movie releasing on a non-festival day in Pakistan. In addition all shows for this love story are fully booked for the next seven days which means that the movie is set to become one of the biggest films of the season in terms of business.
“Khoobsurat has beaten all previous financial records,” says Sheikh Amjad Rashid, Chairman of International Multi Group of Companies (IMGC).
“It is comparable with any big-budgeted Salman Khan or Shahrukh Khan movie. It has done better business than Dawat-e-Ishq which released around the same time. A major movie of the season Dawat-e-Ishq has done better business than Khoobsurat in India but in Pakistan it’s the other way around,” he added.
One of the biggest reasons behind the smashing success of Khoobsurat is Fawad Khan, the famous Pakistani TV star who is making his Bollywood debut in the movie.
