“The most important film I made, in terms of its subject and the great responsibility I had as an actor was a film I did about the founder of Pakistan, called Jinnah.” This is what the late actor, Christopher Lee, had to say for Jamil Dehlavi’s movie, Jinnah.
Based on the life of the founder of Pakistan, this movie was released in Pakistan in 1998, and received and overwhelming response. Besides, Christopher Lee, the movie starred Shashi Kapoor (Narrator), James Fox (Lord Mountbatten), Shakeel (Liaqat Ali Khan), Vaneeza Ahmed (Dina Wadia) and many others. Initially made in English, it was dubbed in Urdu for the Pakistani audience. It received a number of awards including the world Film Award in Jakarta, Gold Award at Worldfest Flagstaff International Film Festival, Golden Dhow Award at Zanzibar International Film Festival and the Golden Pyramid Award at the Cairo International Film Festival. In 2018, it was shown to an audience at the British Film Institute (BFI) along with Dehlavi’s other works.
Now, after a decade of acknowledgement “Jinnah” will be screened again at the inauguration of the Film Club of the Institute of Arts and Culture (IAC) in Lahore. This movie will be presented to the audience again today. Afterwards, Jamil Dehlavi will conduct a workshop, that will run till the 10th of March.
