Elan for PFDC Sunsilk Fashion Week 2013

Élan’s PFDC Sunsilk Fashion Week 2013 collection is named after Keats’ poem, ‘Ode to a Nightingale’. Inspired by the poem in both the literal and figurative sense, this collection is an artistic expression of transcending the human condition of despair and monotony and feeling at one with the nightingale in its blissful state of freedom and happiness. For Ode to a Nightingale designer Khadijah Shah has re-created a series of Chinoiserie-style prints, featuring different natural elements such as birds, flowers, fish, trees and the quintessential full moon with the songbird featuring as a major recurring theme in many of the prints. The colour palette is subtle and dusky – sunset hues, watery blues, pale leafy greens and the pitch dark black of the night to bring them all together. Élan has worked iridescent fabrics into a holistic, uniquely constructed collection – from lightly draped asymmetric dresses to softly structured skirts, intricately crafted pleated jumpsuits, sensual body grazing wrap dresses, bubbled hemlines, kimono styled jackets, cigarette pants and billowy tops with beading, silk threadwork and filigreed cut-work as the central focus of the embellished detail. For this collection, Khadijah has also used atypical studs, flattened alloy disks and bulbous metal forms to create dramatic accents for cuffs, shoulder patches and belts along with cutwork, appliquéd net and thread filigrees and intricate silk thread embroidery for the more elaborate pieces.

The Lux Style Awards nominated label, Élan is synonymous with opulence, elegance, and luxury. In business since 2006, the label earned early success because of its intricately detailed, luxurious evening and bridal wear and tastefully body-conscious silhouettes. In addition to its coveted couture, Élan produces a luxury prêt a porter line, and in its second year of running a hugely popular annual lawn collection. Soon to be added to the portfolio is ‘élan vital’, a casual avant-garde diffusion line. With Creative Director Khadijah Shah at the helm, she is respected for her combination of intricate embellishments, flattering silhouettes and attention to detail in the construction of each outfit. Indeed each collection is conceived with glamour, elegance and versatility in mind. Khadijah Shah inherited her design aesthetic from her mother Aneela Shah, who had a small atelier and a loyal clientele for many years before Élan was formerly launched. Élan is stocked at exclusive boutiques across Pakistan – Labels Karachi, PFDC and L´atelier Lahore, and Mélange Islamabad carry the label and Internationally the brand is available at PFDC New Delhi and Ensemble Dubai.
