[PAKISTAN, Lahore, March 5th, 2014]: Pakistan’s e-commerce market is booming. International companies such as Carmudi have seen the market’s potential and started expanding their businesses here. To officially launch Carmudi in the Pakistani market, the company hosted an exclusive preview of Carmudi.pk, their online vehicle marketplace for Pakistanis. The event was held for select media at Arfa Karim Software & Technology Park on 4th March 2014. Mr. Stefan Haubold, global co-founder of Carmudi flew down from Germany especially for the launch event and Country Consultant of Google, Mr Badar Khushnood was invited to address attendees as a keynote speaker. City FM 89 was the official radio media partner.
Kicking off the event, Mr Khushnood gave a presentation on the rise of internet usage in recent years in Pakistan, which is providing websites such as Carmudi potential to thrive in the country. The statistics he gave were informative; he discussed Internet and Pakistan: The Real Stories, giving a precise overview of local internet and mobile phone usage, such as there being 22 million internet users from Pakistan, 7 million of which are Facebook users, 1 million of which are internet users, and so on. He also mentioned that there are 119 million mobile phone users in Pakistan which amounts to 68.6% of our population, and that 6% of all mobile phones sold in Pakistan are smart phones. He also discussed a paradigm shift where initially marketers used to actively look for customers and then took control, whereas now, consumers are in control. He also shared videos of various people belonging to different industries in Pakistan who gave their opinion on the evolution of online marketing and social media, and how they on a professional level make use of these elements to further their businesses. Mr. Khushnood also discussed how media has been digitalized across the board, and how only 6% of all sales are executed on the web but about 50% of all sales are affected by web search. He highlighted successful eCommerce strategies for Pakistani businesses such as inbound marketing, lead generation, content marketing and affiliate opportunities.
Following, Mr. Stefan Haubold discussed Carmudi as a company and mentioned that it is currently present in 11 countries, with an aim to expand further. He highlighted how the website is facilitating the transaction between buyers and sellers and is on its way to becoming a market leader in many of the most promising emerging markets, such as Pakistan. He discussed that by connecting vehicle buyers and sellers, Carmudi as a platform makes vehicle markets more efficient, functional and transparent. “Carmudi aims at being the No. 1 car classifieds marketplace in all of its markets with a string focus on quality and high degree of user engagement”, said Mr. Haubold.
Following the presentations, the Carmudi team interacted with media, answering questions. Carmudi’s Country Head Ali Izhar said “Our model is to bring the inventory of 700+ dealers in Pakistan to your computer screens. We have only verified cars by trusted dealers listed on our website and that is what our key selling point is. Instead of going out and hunting for your dream vehicle, we bring it straight to you.” Media and guests then witnessed the cutting of a beautiful cake by Mr. Haubold to officially mark Carmudi’s presence in Pakistan.
