Aminah Sheikh – Working for the intellectual growth of the industry

Aminah Sheikh’s fame has been compared to former Miss Universe Susmita Sen’s who poses next to the model in Warda designer lawn 2011. It is invalid. Given the chance Aminah would definitely make it to the pageant because with a brief period of her career she has made an impeccable impact in the industry. The only lawn brand shot by Tapu Javeri this year, shows Aminah smiling euphorically clad in Warda lawn.
Aminah is best known for portraying her skills both in fashion shoots and on tube. She played lead roles in television serials ‘Daam,Uraan, Ishq Gumshuda,’ ‘ Hum Tum,’ ‘Dil-e-Nadan,’ including telefilms ‘Aasmaan Chulay’ in which she palyed the lead beside her husband Mohib Mirza. She was also the lead cast Azfar Ali’s Youth-oriented venture ‘Baarish mein deewar.’ It seems that whatever project Aminah has taken up, there is a sole purpose behind each. After graduating in Film Video Production from Hampshire College, Boston and working as an assistant at Manhattan based multi-media company Curious Pictures, she returned home and her career at Geo Television. She was director and producer for children talk show ‘Bachey Man Ke Sachey.’ Her on-screen debut came in 2007, Sharjil Baloch and Khalid Ahmed’s telefilm, ‘Gurmuch Singh ki Waseeya.’ based on Saadat Hassan Manto’s novel. Her first major serial was a production by Wilco, the ISPR and 7th Sky Entertainment’s joint venture.
Aminah puts in her dire efforts while working for any project and she seems to have an adventure while working on them. In Syed Ali Reza’s telefilm ‘Aasmaan Chu lay’ Aminah played a rickshaw driver , who is determined to become the soul breadwinner of the family. With ardent determination, Aminah learnt to drive a rickshaw on the most busiest streets of the metropolitan Karachi – and doing that on M A Jinnah road and Garden area was no ordinary job at all. She had to drive around with a massive camera attached to the rickshaw while attracting real-time passengers. Last year, Aminah worked in Mehreen Jabbar’s mega drama serial ‘Daam’ and Haissam Hussain’s ‘Ishq Gumshuda.’ Eventually, she made her runway debut in Rehana Saigol’s fashion show. Since then, she has worked for the niche of the fashion industry.
Aminah has been graced with the title ‘Aminah Haq of today’ because of her looks and charm. Aminah Sheikh won the Best Emerging Talent’s category on Lux Style Award 2009. Unlike traditionally, she was lucky to be nominated for Model of the Year (Female) Award in the following year at Lux Style Award 2010. Aminah ultimate achievement so far in fashion industry is being the L’Oreal Paris Pakistan’s official spokes model.
Having versatile international exposure gives Aminah a professional edge. Born in New York, she spent her childhood in Karachi and Riyadh – receiving primary education at Mama Parsi High School and secondary education at American International School (SAIS-R) in Riyadh. She completed her high school from St Joseph Convent Karachi and did her A – levels at The Lyceum. Then she moved back to the States for her majors. Perhaps, it is travelling to various destinations and studying at multi-cultural schools makes her open-minded, intellectually groomed and professional. She is married to seasoned actor and comedian Mohib Mirza. Both knew of each other since childhood when Aminah would do English plays by the famous Rahat Kazmi. They officially met years on at Geo. Mohib was the host of her show ‘Bachay Mann Kay Sachay.’ Married in 2005, the couple continues to work for the intellectual growth of the industry while giving the viewers something to ponder upon in every production.
