It takes character to go against the tide. Bollywood’s current heartthrob Alia Bhatt fits the bill to the T. The young actor recently spoke about that rather polarising term ‘nepotism’. She said if she been on the other side of the argument (implying that she comes from the camp that is entitled), she would have been heartbroken.
Speaking to Times of India, she said, “Of late, I have realised that there is no need to defend the nepotistic nature of the industry because it does exist. The reason why it has become an emotional debate is because those who don’t get a chance, it is difficult for them. If I was on the other side, I would be heartbroken. I may have felt the same way. Yes, it does exist everywhere, but this is the only business where there’s no fixed funda. You need to be at the right place at the right time. For instance, if you want to be a doctor, you study, give your examination and get a job. In the film business, you can do whatever you want, but there has to be that X-factor that people talk about.”
That is a lot of wisdom. She doesn’t fail to mention that simply being entitled won’t take you anywhere either. Having said so, it takes courage to first acknowledge that a problem exists. Alia was launched by Karan Johar in Student of the Year but she has gone ahead and earned her stripes with films such as Highway and Udta Punjab, among others.
Meanwhile, on the work front, Alia remains a busy bee. She is currently shooting for Ayan Mukerji directorial, Brahmastra and Karan Johar production, Kalank. She has also shot for Zoya Akhtar’s Gully Boy where she stars opposite Ranveer Singh. Her last film, Raazi, is a smash hit.
