Ali Xeeshan Exclusive Interview about his experience at PFDC

Ali Xeeshan is a graduate of the Pakistan Institute of Fashion Design (PIFD) and holds an honors degree in Couture and an award for the Best Collection at the institute. He takes inspiration from within the Pakistani culture which the designer feels is still an untapped reserve of creativity. While predominantly a couturier focusing on formal and bridal wear, Ali has also diversified into a diffusion prêt-à-porter line, a formal collection for men and a complete range of accessories. Ali’s signature style can be found in his use of unusual shades of colour and high end luxurious fabrics merged with unconventional embellishment techniques in both traditional and contemporary cuts. He has also received an award of “Excellence in Fashion” from “Ministry of Production” in Islamabad. This 2013, Ali will be showcasing has Spring/Summer 2013 collection at PFDC Sunsilk Fashion Week titled ‘Jalsa-e-Ishq’. We get a chance to talk with him one-on-one to find out his experience at PFDC.


1) Such platforms like PFDC and BCW are taking their toll, do you think fashion shows could really help Pakistan be a fashion inspiration for other countries?

There is no doubt about Pakistan being a hot property at the moment for lot of wrong reason. The only enlightened prospective towards Pakistan is Fashion Industry and these platforms are the reason for Pakistan Fashion is shinning on a globe.

2) PFDC showcased 32 designers this year 2013, according to you which designer did justice to the show?

Can I take my name ? Everyone did their part; there is something special about every collection.

3) Tell us about your collection. What inspired you?

“Sign of love is above all the political flags”.

My inspirational phenomena are translated from opulence of calmness, serenity, the presence of absence. Orchestering the aura of political situation that flip side of the coin. The white damastic signature collection is array of sheer nets and solemn organza in cultured pearls and filigree of embellishment, the feel of transparency, discourse of overlapping depict forums, the motion of truth and lies, the fancy words that are disguised.

4) What is your biggest fashion achievement so far?

From my debuted till date my collection are one of the top rated collection.

5) Since you’ve started your career in the fashion industry is it now different from that time? And how?

With every passing day fashion industry is growing. The horizon is getting broader day by day in a good way.

6) Tell us about your favorite outfit that you showcased at PFDC?

My Showstopper that Meesha wore at PFDC.

7) What goes through your mind when you’re about to show your collection?

Scrutinizing between music, lights, clothes, styling and models are my biggest concern.

8) What are your thoughts about PFDC & Client Response you get from PFDC?

PFDC is not about local clientele, it has engaged big international buyers as well.

9) What’s your specialty in designing?

Each piece I design has a soul and philosophy of it’s own

10) Any message for the young and new talent of Pakistan? 

Do your best in whatever field you are and never give up.
