“Chura ke dil mera, goriya chali,” from the 1994 film ‘Main Khiladi Tu Anari’ was probably one song picturised on such an actor, which stole the hearts of many and became an anthem throughout; one which took its time to last. The handsome, young lead protagonist, who later became famously known as the Bollywood khiladi, however did not perish after the success of the film. I remember the glitz and glamour of the heroines being ignored, when Akki came on board, be it either shaking a leg with them, romancing them or just plain saving the damsel in distress with his to-die-for action stunts and perfect pro-moves.
The success of the actor echoed not just in India, but ricocheted off the borders and hence, Akshay Kumar became more than just a name; the actor actually became a brand. Boasting of a large fan following all throughout the world, where every lead actress wants to pair with him, every young actor looks up to him, and where every kid has his favourite action figure by the name of not Jackie Chan but Akshay Kumar, Pakistan was fortunate enough to hold a press conference for the first time with a Bollywood star and legend like him at a local club in Lahore, where Akshay became a representative of peace between the two countries when he spoke with the utmost humility, respect and admiration for his fans in Pakistan. The media conference, which was organised and managed by Babar Sheikh who represents Eros International and HR Muzik, India, was a huge success as Akshay had a chance to interact with the Pakistani media one-on-one.
Here, in an exclusive interview with Daily Times, Akshay speaks about his journey as not just an actor but as a khiladi too, his upcoming larger-than-life soon-to-be released film ‘Khiladi 786’, his camaraderie with the cast and crew and of course his message to his Pakistani fans. Guys, check out ‘Khiladi 786’ running at a theatre near you on December 7.
