After RamLeela Mujra, Priyanka Chopra to play something special In Gunday?
Priyanka Chopra is in the news for the curves she has flaunted in a cabaret number in Yash Raj Films’ Gunday, also starring Ranveer Singh and Arjun Kapoor.
This is not the first time that Priyanka Chopra has done an item number. In Shootout At Wadala, Zanjeer and Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram Leela, Priyanka couldn’t make any impact with her item songs, but with Gunday it seems she might just get it right.
Other Bollywood actresses who made attempts to ape the original undisputed cabaret queen of Bollywood Helen are Kareena Kapoor in Don (2006), Gauahar Khan in Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai (2010), and now it is Priyanka Chopra’s turn with Gunday (2014).
Gunday is a story of two friends: Bikram and Bala. The film is set during Calcutta’s most unsettled times. Both friends are inseparable, have grown from small time goons, inconsequential wagon breakers, coal thieves to the biggest and most powerful black marketing mafia-men. As the infamy of these two renegades spread far and wife, the people of this sprawling city started calling the happy-go-lucky rebels: Gunday.
White recreating the authenticity of Calcutta of the 1970s, director and writer, Ali Abbas Zafar also introduces us to the then prevalent world of cabaret dancing. Priyanka Chopra plays the role of Nandita, the gorgeous cabaret dancing of Gunday.
Priyanka was deliberately kept away from the first look of the film, and the reason is now quite clear. The makers wanted to create the hype around the leading lady of the film, and they have hit the bull’s eye with this one.
Priyanka Chopra dons a jazzy costume in nude hues, with golden shimmer, wearing high golden heels. A touch of feather and a bobbed hairdo add to the retro effect. Althought the name of the songs hasn’t been revealed yet, it is meant to be Nandita’s introductory number in the film. Bosco-Caeser have choreographed the number sung by Neha Bhasin and Bappi Lahiri. Sohail Sen has composed it on Irshad Kamil‘s lyrics.
Gunday is directed by Ali Abbas Zafar and produced by Aditya Chopra under the Yash Raj Films banner. The film stars Ranveer Singh as Bikram, Arjun Kapoor as Bala, along with Priyanka Chopra and Irrfan Khan.
Gunday is slated to release on Valentine’s Day, February 14, 2014.
